This is the thirty-second submission for my attempt at looneytunerian's Pokeshipping 100 Theme Challenge.
55. Confession
Ah, Life, you are such a cruel and strict mistress. I haven't had much time to even think about this challenge, let alone work on it. And let's not even talk about trying to draw for my own person (like doodling my own stuff or something not related to fandom and/or Gaia). Yeah, my real life job has kinda been busy these past few months with the holiday rush, inventory updates and checkups, and I probably have at least a day's worth of overtime accumulated over those months that probably will never be paid for. It sucks... but! I have brought you a new theme submission! Granted, it may just be sketches piled on top of gradients and textures (to some, hopefully) but it is a submission and it is cohesive (again, hopefully)!
Speaking of the cohesion, I decided to put some 'narration' (term used very loosely) in just to clarify the piece a little bit. My brain knew the minute details that go in between the panels, but they obviously don't show up in the actual 'comic'. So, that's where the minimalist 'narration' comes in. I wanted to keep it minimalist because I'm a firm believer in the 'show don't tell' rule put to pure visuals without any words (or sometimes sound) when it's applicable. Too bad I couldn't do exactly that. Oh well. ^_^;;
Now, as for the actual subject matter... I initially wanted to do a duality with the confession where we get to see both Ash & Misty confessing to one another (and the opposing reactions, respectively), but I ended up scrapping that idea mainly due to time and inspiration. I didn't really 'feel it' to do that, and I also wanted to have Ash be the confessor since Misty's had more than enough canon evidence of her feelings. (Yeah, I know, it's a kids show where the central themes have nothing to do with romance and stuff, but a fan can dream, y'know?) Also, I love drawing Misty being all beet-red and embarrassed. It's so adorable. XD
I also really love it when artists (mainly manga artists) draw characters playing with their hands, like covering their face or something. Io Sakisaka (creator of Strobe Edge, & Ao Haru Ride) tends to do this when her characters are embarrassed, and it always makes the artist in me squee and get the warm fuzzies when I see it. I'm not sure what it is that makes me like it, but it's always something I love. :3
Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Sidenote: The hat that Ash sent Misty with the 'love' bit (which is also the end to the letter he sent along with it) is his original hat from Kanto. He hasn't worn it since the Hoenn Season, so he probably wouldn't miss it all that much since he's rarely ever home. Also, call it a memento, so Misty will never forget him. ;)
