This is the seventy-seventh submission for my attempt at looneytunerian's Pokeshipping Theme Challenge.
64. Sonic Style
Ahh, Sonic. I wasn't into the games or the characters as a kid since I was much more into TV shows and animation growing up. Not to mention, none of my friends played Sonic if they were into video games. I also didn't follow any of the shows made for the franchise due to my taste at the time (which consisted of mostly Disney, Don Bluth, and anime). I know the iconography of the character but I moreso aware of just of the downfall in quality with the franchise games. It's really sad, to be honest, as an outsider looking in. I can't really say how or why these thoughts are relevant at all to the theme, aside from the fact that it's what comes to mind when I think of Sonic as a whole. Because, otherwise, all I'd have to talk about is just how uncertain I am with drawing in the Sonic style. ^_^;;
I mean, this isn't my first try at the art style as a matter of fact. I had a person request a couple of drawings of their own Sonic OCs back on Gaia Online some years ago. They came out decently enough, I suppose, but I always fear the idea of not living up to the original style of another when having to emulate them. Especially since I don't even have a concrete art style of my own! ^_^;; So, apologies all around to any Sonic fans out there who look at this and find it riddled with inaccuracies. I'm still learning.
Now, I guess I could talk about the posing for this one (since I don't have much else). I had decided to 'redraw' that one shot of Misty pulling Ash by locking elbows because I wanted to follow a similar train of thought that I used for the Looney Tunes and Disney themes. Granted, the LT theme wasn't entirely accurate because there was never a frame of that episode where Misty's eyes were heart-shaped and a thought bubble hung beside her head... but I believe there was a shot of Ash looking all miffed at Misty while she was looking off into the distance, hands clasped and all. (Then again, I could just be imagining things to make everything work in my benefit.) And yeah, choice made and done. I really like the dynamics in place too. The flow in their anatomy came out well (and maybe not even awkward!). Also, Pikachu as a Chao
Also, it was kinda hard to try and imitate the original BG of this screenshot from the show. It was pink and yellow with all these blocks and hearts like a 90s abstract deco painting. So, here's to inability in digital painting and properly emulating real painted BGs! :') (Oh yeah, and just a random thought: what if I had drawn Ash & Misty as employees for the Sonic fast food chain, wearing the uniforms and whatnot? That would've been cute, right? I forget, did Sonic do the 'deliver-to-your-car' service or was that another chain? Eh, I guess it doesn't matter anymore since I already finished this theme. Oh well~)
Not much else to say now, so let's just end this here and I hope to see you in the next one soon! :)
