This is the seventy-fifth submission for my attempt at looneytunerian's Pokeshipping Theme Challenge.
88. Ninjas
Whoo! There's only a quarter left of themes till completion! Isn't that amazing? 8D I know I'm excited! I can't believe it's taken me around 5-6 years to get this far. I mean, I wasn't sure how long it would take me back when this all first began, but I knew it wasn't going to be quick. ^_^;; I'll leave the big 'award' speech for when I actually post the 100th submission, though. I don't want to get it out too early and then take another year to actually finish this challenge. (Which is a thought I don't want to make manifest out of the potential self-contempt I'll have for myself.)
So, I wasn't entirely sure what I'd do for this theme at first. While I was working on some others, I played with potential posing and outfits without really putting anything to paper. At first, I thought I might do a drawing where Misty has Ash pinned to the ground with a weapon out, and Ash would just look dumbstruck in love at having been overtaken by some lovely blue-green eyes. ;) There would be close-up shots of their faces to emphasize their expressions (basically like Theme #1 or #99) floating on opposite sides in a diagonal fashion. However, I didn't like the idea because of how much work I'd have to put in the posing (I'm still struggling with low crouching and such), not to mention that I'd already done that layout twice before. Then, a few days before drawing this theme out, I thought back to what I'd seen from some big-name Japanese SatoKasu fans. More specifically, I remembered that while they did draw just Ash and Misty in their fanart, they wouldn't always have the two interact romantically.
Y'see, lately, I'd been struggling with posing in correlation to the remaining themes that I have. Some aren't obvious for romance and I felt that if I didn't have Ash and Misty showing attraction to one another, it wouldn't truly feel like a 'pairing' theme, y'know? So, there I was, trying to remember the SatoKasu art I'd seen in the past and that's when it hit me. I shouldn't have to worry so much about whether or not Ash and Misty are acting cute at each other. I mean, there's more to their relationship than whether or not they're blushing at each other! So, that's when I decided to go with this posing. I'd seen it used before for ninjas in others' artworks, but I can't think of any specific one at the moment. I feel like it's sorta iconic for ninjas, at least maybe in kids shows. But whatever! Semantics schemantics! Let's move on!
(By the way, I decided to go with a 'watercolor/painted' look for this theme because... I guess I just felt like it. XD I thought it'd be pretty.)
