This is the seventy-nineth submission for my attempt at looneytunerian's Pokeshipping Theme Challenge.
76. Dancing
Whoo for super simple coloring! 8D But no, seriously, the most difficult part of this drawing was just tracing over the original sketch to get the clean pencil lines you see here. Holding the paper still while on top of a fat and worn sketchbook can be a killer on the wrist if you've never experienced it. ^_^;; So, I hope you can appreciate the pain I went through for this theme. (Appreciate it gaddangit!)
So, for this theme, I was throwing around a lot of different ideas for what kind of dancing I'd draw them doing. The predominant one was of them just going full freestyle and looking silly yet happy. Another was possibly the junior high awkward school dance style. And another one was 19th Century Jane Austen dance รก la Pride & Prejudice style (y'know, where Darcy asks Lizzy for a dance at the ball). However, I felt that this casual dance or the freestyle was better suited for the two of them. (Nothing against the period dance, it just seemed like a fair amount of research I'd need to put in when I wasn't even leaning towards the dance very much.) To me, it felt more right for Ash and Misty to genuinely enjoy themselves on their own terms than to get all made up for some formal affair that could possibly turn suffocating. I mean, I know Misty enjoys herself some extravagance when the opportunity arises, but I know she'd be willing to compromise to something more personable and simple if she knew Ash put his heart into it. He's fairly easy to read and if she saw that he was truly happy with something like this, then she doesn't need anything fancier. ("That doesn't mean you're allowed to skimp every time, Ash Ketchum~")
So, I guess you're wondering why I went with this dance rather than the freestyle(and if not, too bad 'cause I'm gonna explain anyway). If I was more confident in my anatomy practice, I would've gone for much more wacky/silly poses of Ash and Misty rockin' out to some high energy music. XD However, I'm still not 100% certain that I can pull off drawing those poses without ruining them, so the actual dance for the theme won over. Of course, there's also the fact that this is inherently more 'shippy' than the two kids rockin' out. XD Then again, that may be more of a subjective thing? I think it's up to all of you on how you feel about that.
Anyway, onto the next theme(wherein I totally cheated and did the same color style for that one as I did for this one)! Whoo! 8D
