This is the twenty-third submission for my attempt at looneytunerian's Pokeshipping 100 Theme Challenge.
30. Cosplay Time: Disney's The Little Mermaid
It's been only a little under 2 months(?) since I last completed a theme and I already feel out-of-sync with making these things. I'm not sure why, but I know I just feel like there should be more to this drawing to match with the other cosplay themes. The problem is, is that I can't figure out for the life of me what that difference is. ^_^;; Like there should be more activity in it or something. Maybe I'm just imagining it. Oh well. ^_^;;
So, I knew in the preliminary stages of this drawing (as in brainstorming by writing notes on a piece of paper), I was going to draw this with Misty's mermaid costume on Ash. In fact, a lot (if not all) of the ideas I had for this drawing were kept. The ripping of the costume, Ash trying to sing (which is more cheesy and second-hand embarrassing than horrible, though he shouldn't pursue music as a career ever), and also Misty's expression. The only major-ish change that happened was dialogue. In the sketch, I had put in thought bubbles for both Ash & Misty. Ash was thinking to himself of how much he hated being in costume and how embarrassing it was to sing to Misty, while Misty herself was inwardly crying about having to tolerate it all. So yeah, her expression is actually that of "Oh god stop this horrible pain train of fabric tears and scratchy off-key singing!" rather than "Oh no I have almost drown and in need of medical attention please help me." XD Probably too much explanation, but I thought you all would just like to know. XP
Another thing I changed was the water effect. I was going to have this big puddle of water around them with the sea water covering them from head to toe, but then I realized how much time and effort that took. Not to mention that if you watch the movie, they don't really show Ariel or Eric soaked while on the beach with her PoYW (Part of Your World) reprise. Probably moreso to do with budget constraints and wanting to meet deadlines and all, but it wasn't like they had them look 100% dry either. Little things like how the state of one's hair is while slowly drying. So, what I decided was try and emulate that effect instead of going with my first idea. Mostly by darkening Misty's clothes. ^_^;;
And, I think that's about it. I don't think there's much else to say about this theme. Oh, except that I tried to match music notes to the actual song! I only took basic music back in school, so I have no idea if it's right or not but what you see up there coming off of Ash's head are notes attempting to match to Part of Your World.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this latest addition of the theme challenge, and I'm have to say I'm pretty happy with how my Blogspot blog is coming along. Here's hoping it'll be even better! So, until next time... see ya! :D
